Thank you, Gianna Emanuela Molla! On November 3rd a church full of Catholics from all over central Wisconsin heard the testimony of St. Gianna Beretta Molla’s daughter, Gianna Emanuela. The talk was recorded for your listening pleasure and can be found on our website at stjohnsmarshfield.org. Gianna described the remarkable virtues of both of her parents as well as the means for their growth in true holiness. Gianna also graciously took time after the Holy Hour to greet each and every person who waited in line – she did not finish until just after 9:00 p.m.! For those who would like to know more about her project (“Project Ponte Nuovo”), you can go to the website saintgianna.org and click on “Links.” Gianna’s goal is to raise sufficient funds to restore her family home and their local parish church, as well as convert a factory into a catechetical and spirituality center that would focus on the great passions of St. Gianna’s life, namely the sanctity of human life, the sacramentality of marriage, and the beauty of living a life close to Jesus and His Mother. Some have already written checks to support this remarkable cause and it is not difficult to do: make the check out to “St. Gianna Restoration Fund – NCCF” and send it to the National Catholic Community Foundation at 1321 Generals Highway, Suite 202, Crownsville, Maryland 21032. Let’s pray in thanksgiving to God for Gianna’s wonderful visit to St. John’s and continue to assist her with our prayers!

St. John’s Catholic Book Club: After a bit of a hiatus the parish book club is back in business. We will come together on Nov. 29th to discuss Bella’s Gift: How One Little Girl Transformed Our Family and Inspired A Nation by Rick & Karen Santorum. We choose our books by consensus, not strictly Catholic tomes or authors, but after considering persons or topics we believe we should be aware of as Catholic Christians. For more information call Mari at 715-207-7744.

Angel Tree Christmas: St. John’s Social Justice Committee in partnership with Prison Fellowship & St. Vincent de Paul will once again provide gifts to children of prisoners. Sign up for “angels” will begin the weekend of Nov. 12th-13th in the main church entrance. If “angels” remain they will continue to have sign-up the weekend of Nov. 19th-20th. Gifts should be returned to church, unwrapped but in a box by the weekend of Nov. 26th-27th before Mass. On Nov. 28th committee members will sort and wrap the gifts with a few other helping hands. Arrangements will be made for home gift delivery by parishioners the weekend of Nov. 29th–Dec. 11th. Questions? Contact Jane at 715-387-2019 or Donna at 715-384-3080.

Fellowship Meals at St Vincent St John’s Parish Family has the opportunity to aid the less fortunate in our area by serving a fellowship meal in the Gathering Room of St Vincent de Paul. Meals are served on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. St John’s Parish volunteers have been serving a meal the last Wednesday of every other month. Volunteers are also needed to serve the meal one Friday a month.. Following are the details in putting on a meal:
-Food is provided, often by KC’s, the hospital, and local businesses
-Duties include setting-up the room, heating the food, serving guests and cleaning-up.
-Volunteers are needed from 3-6:00pm with most help needed between 4:45-6:30.
-It is best to have 6 to 7 volunteers each night. Dates of future meals: Fri. Nov.18th and Wed., Nov.23rd. Please consider participating in this important, rewarding service. If you are able to help at any of these meals, please call Donna at 715-384-3080.
